Plot
Sivan (Mohanlal) is a powerful don in Madurai who runs a crime syndicate with his loyal men. He adopts Shakthi (Vijay), the son of his driver who was killed by a rival gang, and raises him as his own. Shakthi grows up with a hatred for the police and follows his father's footsteps in illegal activities. He falls in love with Shanthi (Kajal Aggarwal), a daring cop who does not know his true identity.
One day, Sivan is humiliated by the commissioner of police (Pradeep Rawat) and decides to make Shakthi a police officer to take revenge. Shakthi reluctantly agrees and becomes an IPS officer with the help of Sivan's influence. However, he soon realizes that his father's enemies are also in the police force and he has to face them. He also develops a bond with his fellow officers, especially Rajarathinam (Sampath Raj), who becomes his mentor.
Meanwhile, Sivan's daughter Mahalakshmi (Nivetha Thomas) returns from abroad and falls in love with Shakthi, unaware that he is her foster brother. Sivan also arranges for Shakthi's marriage with Mahalakshmi, much to Shakthi's shock. Shakthi tries to reveal the truth to Mahalakshmi but is stopped by Sivan, who threatens to kill Shanthi if he does so.
Shakthi is then assigned to investigate a case involving a factory owned by Sivan's rival Perumal (Mahat Raghavendra), who is involved in illegal mining and human trafficking. Shakthi raids the factory and arrests Perumal, but Sivan intervenes and frees him, claiming that he is his friend. This creates a rift between Sivan and Shakthi, who decides to go against his father.
Shakthi gathers evidence against Perumal and Sivan and exposes their crimes to the media. He also reveals his relationship with Sivan to Mahalakshmi and Shanthi, who are shocked and heartbroken. Sivan feels betrayed by Shakthi and vows to kill him. He sends his men to attack Shakthi, but they are killed by Rajarathinam, who reveals that he is actually Vignesh, Sivan's biological son who was presumed dead in an accident.
Vignesh tells Shakthi that he was saved by Perumal, who raised him as his own son and trained him to take revenge on Sivan for killing his mother. He also says that he joined the police force to destroy Sivan from within. He then shoots Shakthi and leaves him for dead.
Shakthi survives the attack and is taken to the hospital by Shanthi and Mahalakshmi. He learns that Vignesh has kidnapped Sivan and plans to kill him in front of the public. He rushes to the spot and confronts Vignesh, who reveals that he was behind all the attacks on Sivan's family and friends. He also says that he killed Perumal after using him for his revenge.
Shakthi fights with Vignesh and manages to rescue Sivan. He then tells Sivan that he still loves him as his father and asks him to surrender to the law. Sivan agrees and hugs Shakthi, but Vignesh shoots them both from behind. Before dying, Sivan kills Vignesh with his last bullet.
The film ends with Shakthi recovering from his injuries and marrying Shanthi, while Mahalakshmi accepts them as her family.
